Holiday Fire Safety
- Never place a Christmas tree near a heat source and do not put a live tree up to early, this will cause your tree to dry out and become a significant fire danger.
- Inspect holiday lights each year for frayed wires, bare spots and cracks.
- Do not overload electrical outlets. Do not link more than three light stands together unless the directions indicate it is safe to do so. Make sure to periodically check the wires for heat, they should not be warm to the touch.
- Never put lit candles on your Christmas tree and avoid using candles as decorations in your house when the room will be unattended.
New Recruits
The Cashmere Fire Department usually gets a couple new recruits a year. In the last couple months we have had eight new recruits join us, an almost overwhelming addition! These new recruits range in experience from a previous fire Chief to no experience at all. Many of these new recruits are not just going to be firefighters but are also taking classes for their EMT license, growing our aid crew by five.
Please help us welcome our new recruits:
Arumburo, Gerardo
Blanchard, Kurt
Dronen, Dave
Milne, Chad
Muhly, Zachery
Osburn, Jake
Placencia, Fortunato
Zukowski, Pete
We are also very excited to have James Brown back from Paramedic school!
Cashmere Founders Day 2009
Come out to the Cashmere Founders Day Parade on June 27! Also, the Cashmere Fire Department will provide a water display on Saturday at the Fire Station. We will NOT be selling hamburgers and hotdogs this year.
Outdoor Cooking Safety Reminders
- Before using a grill, check the connection between the propane tank and the fuel line. Make sure all tubes are not blocked.
- Be careful when using lighter fluid. Do not add fluid to an already lit fire because the flame can travel up into the container and explode.
- Never grill/barbecue in enclosed areas - carbon monoxide could be produced.
- Dispose of hot coals properly - douse them with plenty of water, and stir them to ensure that the fire is out.
- Do not overfill the propane tank.
